I have noticed several times that when I start treating patients wounds with Flaminal® Hydro or Forte, the wound appeared to become larger and deeper. What should I do?
Initially the wound may indeed appear larger and deeper. This is normal and a consequence of debridement by Flaminal® Hydro or Forte. It is due to the absorption of dead tissue. In fact, the wound does not become deeper or larger, it is simply that the wound cavity did not appear as deep or as large before, as it was filled with necrotic tissue. When starting treatment with Flaminal® Hydro or Forte, this necrotic tissue becomes liquefied, dissolves and is absorbed (and therefore removed). The necrotic tissue has to be removed in order for the wound to heal. Removing this necrotic tissue (debriding) not only enables the wound to heal, but also reduces the risk of infection.
